The Trae Young Conundrum
On the surface, Trae Young appears to be having a terrible time. Advanced metrics don't agree.
Too often we say things about players simply out of polarization. Ben Simmons refusing to shoot is a good example, with NBA Twitter taking things a step too far far too often. Arguably, though, no player is over-hated than Trae Young.
After taking his rightful place as the Knicks owner in multiple instances, pretty much all of New York hates his guts — yet that isn’t all that makes him a polarizing figure. Some say he’s a wannabe Steph Curry, is a shot chucker, and is a certified Coach Killer. As for coach-killing, I haven’t quantified that yet, but we can quantify the other two criticisms. After a historically bad shooting stretch for Young, it’s important to keep things in perspective — which I’ve heard is a struggle for Knickerbocker fans.
