This came absolutely out of nowhere. That isn’t to say that there haven’t been theories about the potential to trade LaMelo, but there certainly haven’t been Giannis-esque — or even Jaylen Brown-esque — levels of smoke, and this is the first time there has been any real fire to speak of.

Before diving into the actual basketball of the deal, it’s worth noting that the Timberwolves are going to need to hire Matt Murdock as a lawyer due to the overall disregard for media training that both LaMelo and Anthony Edwards have. This calls for a really good lawyer:

I digress, but this is a wild deal, not only because of how out-of-left-field it was, but also because of the situations of both teams.
