The Timberwolves' Icarus Series Starts Now
After drawing the worst matchup possible, can the Timberwolves overcome their history?
Being the 3 seed team in the Western Conference usually means that you’re getting a relatively easier matchup in the first round. Sure, you might run into a team that’s been on a hot streak and has stolen the 6th seed, but you usually don’t think to yourself, “This is the worst possible position we could be in.” The Timberwolves are likely the exception to that rule.
While there aren’t any particularly “easy” matchups this year, the Wolves would’ve been okay with playing an up-and-down team like the Lakers, whom they’ve gone 3-1 against this season. Heck, the Pelicans would’ve been alright as well, considering the Wolves have split the season series with them. In fact, they’d likely want to play anyone but who they’re actually playing: the Phoenix Suns.
Let’s take a look at why that is, what it means for the very near future of the oft-disappointing franchise, and what to look out for as the two star-laden teams duke it out. Most importantly, let’s find out if Minnesota might be on the Icarus track — that is, whether or not they’re flying too close to the Sun(s).
