Earlier in the season, I mentioned that the Memphis Grizzlies were running both a marathon and a sprint, shooting early into the shot clock, going the distance (literally), and moving like no other team in the league. At the time, that seemed to be this squad’s identity, with Ja Morant barrelling down the lane while Desmond Bane would come off of screens on the perimeter, waiting for the kickout. Despite being a strategy that didn’t involve the use of the pick and roll, it was, by all means, an effective one.

So why are the Grizzlies changing it all of the sudden?

It’s gone a bit under the radar, but the Grizzlies have made a major change to how they operate, and it might just change their chances of making a deep run — possibly for the worse.
