That Wemby Guy Seems Alright
(How do this man's limbs not instantaneously combust when he passes the ball across the whole court?)
It seems that Victor Wembanyama de Fautereau Vassel is pretty good at basketball. Yes, that is his full name. I don’t make the rules.
On Wednesday, the Spurs faced off against the Pistons in what would have been originally deemed the NBA Finals if it were made for two of the worst teams in NBA history. Instead, we got one of the craziest performances from a young player that we’ve ever seen. Wednesday’s game marked one of the few times in history in which a French person refused to surrender to the pressure of the moment. I apologize to my singular French subscriber for that joke.
Yes, Wemby recorded the fifth-fastest triple-double in NBA history, putting up the following numbers:
16 points
10 assists
12 rebounds
+15 plus/minus
21 minutes
Crazy stuff. While the Frenchman didn’t shoot too well (37%, 6/16 shooting), he made up for it in virtually every other department. The passing (more on that later) and poise of how Wemby managed this game were incredible, leading the Spurs to a 130-108 blowout victory. For good measure, let’s take a look at the game in more detail, along with what it means for how the Spurs operate from here on out.
