So When Will We Realize Fan Voting is Flawed?
Or, alternatively, "what the heck is Klay Thompson doing on this list"
The NBA has a problem with its fans — except it’s not exactly the fans’ fault.
Earlier this week, the first round of All-Star fan voting was publicized by the league, which immediately thrust the general public into why-isn’t-my-favorite-player-included mode with varying degrees of validity. In a sense, All-Star voting is meant for the fans. After all, the NBA cannot make money without people around the world watching games, so it’s only fair that those same viewers have a certain level of say in who is selected for the season’s premier non-playoffs event. That, as a concept, is completely fine. Yet, due to the NBA relying on fans so heavily for fan voting, the league is actually diminishing greatness — here’s what I mean.
