Luka Doncic Can't Carry Everything
If Kyrie's availability starts to become an issue, things could get murky in the DFW.
Multiple historic statlines, a 30-0 run, and a loss. Such is the Luka Mavs experience.
Last night, the OKC Thunder beat the Mavs 126-120, but it looked like it would be a much wider margin at the start of the fourth quarter. By going on a 30-0 run, led by Luka himself, they closed the gap but were unable to close out the game — though they were the first team in NBA history to go on such a run.
With Kyrie Irving out with a foot injury for an unknown period of time, the Mavericks are back to where they were prior to the trade for the volatile guard, which is a matter of getting the ball to Luka and everyone else getting out the way. However, if things don’t change quickly, both Doncic and Kyrie could be on the next AMTRAK out.
Can Luka really continue to carry the Mavs without Kyrie at his side? Maybe. But that doesn’t mean he should — history-making statlines or not, the Mavs are in a predicament.
